Trainers - Three Day Events

Vicki Baker

Vicki Baker is a successful FEI Advanced level Event rider with Olympic aspirations as well as a successful upper level dressage competitor. She is a uniquely talented rider specializing in the development of talented horses for competition in Eventing and Dressage.

First recognized by the United States Equestrian Team as an Olympic hopeful in 1996, Vicki made it to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney Australia but only as a groom following a riding accident that left her unable to ride at the final qualifying events. Vicki returned to the International level aboard her long time mount Reggae Mon with a top finish at the 2001 MBNA Fox Hall Cup CCI Three Star and was short listed for the Pedigree Chum Burghley CCI Four Star Team competition. Grooming at the Olympics had opened a new door for Vicki and at the same time, she was offered a job as the Director of Eventing Activities at the USET Headquarters in Gladstone. Still feeling the effects of her 1999 accident Vicki accepted the position and went on to manage all the logistics for the USET Eventing competitions nationally and abroad. It wasn't long, however, before Vicki was longing to compete again and in 2002 she returned to compete at the International Fair Hill CCI Three Star.

Vicki has worked and trained with some of the top riders, trainers and coaches in the sport of Three Day Eventing including Captain Mark Phillips, Karen and David O'Connor and Jimmy Wofford just to name a few. Through years of studying Vicki has developed her own style that emphasizes the methodical development of skill and techniques through consistency and capitalizes on the relationship between horse and rider to bring out the best in both.

Vicki has had the unique opportunity to train with and audit many of the great trainers and coaches that have influenced the equestrian sport today including, Captain Mark Phillips and his wife Sandy Fluger Phillips, George Morris, David and Karen O'Connor, and James Wofford just to mention a few.

She's also been lucky enough to watch, in person, the world's best train for and compete at many International Three Day Events including the 2000 Sydney Olympics, ROLEX, Burghley, Blenheim, Fox Hall, and Fair Hill.

"I have trained with Vicki Baker since I was eight years old, riding my first pony Velvet. Vicki has maintained the same thorough, persistent style towards achieving excellence in the horses and riders she instructs. She treats every horse and rider pair individually, incorporating unique and specific exercises in every lesson. She always gives her full and undivided attention which means that lessons are challenging but also amazingly productive and worthwhile. She has a lot to offer for a motivated rider and I respect and admire her for her knowledge, integrity and confidence. She's awesome!"
